What investigations fall under gynaecology?

At Doctor's House Antverpia, we perform various examinations to assess your gynaecological health. The choice of examinations depends on your symptoms, age, medical history and stage of life. We take the time to listen to you and always choose a tailor-made approach, with respect for your needs and privacy. Do you have complaints, questions or need a check-up? We are happy to help.

Anamnesis

During the first consultation, the doctor listens to your symptoms and asks specific questions about your medical history, medication use and any hereditary conditions. This will give us a full picture of your health and allow us to schedule the appropriate tests.

Clinical research

During the physical examination, the doctor will assess your general health and any abnormalities. This forms the basis for determining what further investigations are needed.

Lab tests

Through blood or urine samples, we measure important health parameters, such as hormone levels, iron levels, thyroid function and inflammation markers. This helps detect underlying problems or follow up treatments.

Ultrasound

A gynaecological ultrasound images the uterus, ovaries and surrounding structures. This is done through an external (abdominal) or internal (vaginal) ultrasound, depending on the situation.

Speculum examination

In this examination, the doctor views the vagina and cervix using a speculum. It is a simple and short procedure, often performed during a check-up or for specific symptoms.

When is a gynaecological examination necessary?

Are you suffering from menstrual problems, lower abdominal pain or other gynaecological symptoms? A consultation with the gynaecologist can help evaluate these symptoms and start the right treatment. Regular check-ups are essential to detect conditions early and prevent serious complications, such as.

Menstrual complaints - Irregular, heavy or painful periods may indicate underlying conditions such as endometriosis or fibroids. Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) - This can be caused by infections, vaginal dryness or other medical conditions. Vaginal infections - Symptoms such as itching, burning or abnormal discharge may indicate a fungal or bacterial infection. Pregnancy wish - Difficulties in getting pregnant can have several causes that require a gynaecological examination. Transitional complaints - Symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and mood swings can result from menopause. Pelvic floor problems - Complaints such as urinary incontinence or a pressing sensation in the vagina may indicate prolapse. Abnormal smear - An abnormal result may indicate cellular changes that require further investigation. Pain in the lower abdomen - Persistent or severe abdominal pain can have several causes, including gynaecological conditions.

On-time care is tailored care

Many gynaecological conditions are easily treatable - and often even preventable - with timely care and regular follow-up. That is why it is important not to wait to be examined, especially if there are symptoms or an increased risk due to heredity, hormonal fluctuations or previous health problems. Early diagnosis makes all the difference: it prevents worse, relieves symptoms and offers peace of mind.

How does a gynaecology consultation take place?

1. Intake & Anamnesis

A gynaecological consultation starts with a calm conversation. The doctor or nurse will ask questions about your menstrual cycle, pregnancies, contraception, sexual health, complaints or concerns, and your medical history. This helps to form a complete and personal health picture.

2. Gynaecological examination

If necessary, a technical examination such as an internal examination, a smear, ultrasound or additional tests (e.g. STD screening) will follow. Everything is done in a safe, respectful environment and with clear explanations of each step. The aim is to chart your gynaecological health and detect any problems early.

3. Discussion & Advice

After the examination, the doctor will discuss the findings with you. If necessary, a follow-up plan is drawn up, e.g. for further follow-up, treatment or prevention. You will receive advice on menstruation, fertility, menopause, contraception or other topics relevant to you. The report will be available afterwards in your eHealth or CoZo file.
