Mertens, ophthalmologist and medical director of Medipolis Eye Centre in Antwerp (Wilrijk), completed his medical studies in 1991 at the University of Antwerp.<\/p><\/span><span><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/span><span><p>He then undertook specialised training in ophthalmology from 1991 to 1995, focusing on refractive surgery, cataract surgery, corneal transplants and techniques to make reading glasses unnecessary, among others.<\/p><\/span><span><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/span><span><p>He specialises in:<\/p><\/span><span><ul><\/span><span><li>Dry eyes and tear duct problems - Diagnosis and personalised therapies to improve comfort and quality of life.<\/li><\/span><span><li>Eyelid surgery - Functional and aesthetic restoration of eyelids, resulting in a fresh and natural look.<\/li><\/span><span><li>Strabismus (squinting and double vision) - Corrections and treatments for both children and adults.<\/li><\/span><span><li>General eye diseases and controls - From routine examinations to detecting and monitoring glaucoma, macular degeneration and other eye conditions.<\/li><\/span><span><li>Refractive surgery - Life without glasses or contact lenses through innovative laser and lens implants.<\/li><\/span><span><li>Cataract surgery - Treatment with modern techniques and premium implant lenses for optimal vision.<\/li><\/span><span><\/ul><\/span><span><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/span><span><p>Dr Mertens combines medical precision with a personalised approach so that each patient feels heard and accompanied.
