Dr Dua Guido

Dr Dua graduated in RUG in 1979 as a doctor of medicine, surgery and obstetrics with high distinction. He started his training in neurology, surgery and eventually neurosurgery in Antwerp. The last year he worked at the CHU in Montpellier, the last 3 months as "chef de Clinique en fonction" In 1986 he obtained his accreditation as Neurosurgeon in Belgium. In 1986, he was asked to further develop neurosurgery according to his vision in the OCMW clinics, based in then AZ Middelheim. From 240 operations in 1986, the service's activity was further expanded to a 1,600 operations in 2014, with quality considered more important than quantity. Dr Dua specialised in surgical neuro-oncology with introduction of CT guided stereotaxy, neuronavigation and awake surgery in Antwerp. For this, he did numerous internships abroad, of which his 1987 stay at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, is still one of the most important. Also, the further development of microscopic spine surgery remained an important focus. He was head of service Neurosurgery in ZAS until 2018 and a member of the 8-member accreditation committee for neurosurgery in Brussels until 2020. Currently, he is still a consultant in the neurosurgery service at the Hospital aan de stroom. He makes his experience and expertise available during his consultations which represents clear added value for patients.
