When is a urological examination needed?
Do you suffer from urinary problems, lower abdominal pain or see blood in your urine? If so, an underlying disorder of the urinary tract or male genital organs may be at the root. A timely visit to the urologist is important to correctly evaluate these symptoms, diagnose them and prevent complications. Common reasons for a consultation are:
Peeing complaints - Difficulty urinating, a weak urine stream, frequent urges or incontinence can indicate an enlarged prostate, an overactive bladder or a problem of the pelvic floor. Blood in the urine (haematuria) - This is an alarm symptom that may indicate kidney stones, urinary tract infections or, more rarely, a tumour in the urinary tract or bladder. Pain in the side or lower abdomen - Sudden, severe pain may indicate kidney stones, urinary tract obstruction or other kidney disease. Erectile dysfunction - Impaired erection can be caused by vascular problems, hormonal imbalances, neurological disorders or psychological factors. Recurrent urinary tract infections - Frequent recurrent infections require further investigation for structural or functional abnormalities of the urinary tract. Kidney stones - Colic pain in the side, often with nausea and blood in the urine, may indicate a stone formation that requires evaluation and treatment. Prostate problems - In men, symptoms such as nocturnal urination, difficulty urinating or a reduced urine stream may indicate prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or other prostate disease.

2. Investigate
Depending on your symptoms, one or more tests will follow, such as urinalysis, blood tests, ultrasound of the kidneys, bladder or prostate, or uroflowmetry. If necessary, specific tests such as a PSA test (for prostate), residue measurement or rectal examination can also be performed. These steps help us detect abnormalities early.
3. Discussion
The results are discussed in complete discretion. The doctor explains the findings and, if necessary, draws up a personal treatment plan.
